A DISABLED pensioner is deeply worried after paying a rent firm - and then receiving another demand for the cash with a big surcharge on top.

People from across Huddersfield have bombarded the Examiner with complaints at the way a London firm has demanded ground rents.

Dozens say Estate and Management demanded an extra £20 on top of the small annual bills which the rent collection firm claimed were overdue.

Mrs Eva Briggs, of Paddock, was one woman who DID receive a reminder for her annual £2.25 ground rent fee last month.

She sent a cheque off the same day along with a stamped addressed envelope so Estates and Management could send her a receipt.

But she has now received another demand for the £2.25, and this time she was also charged the £20 administration surcharge fee.

Mrs Briggs, who is partially-sighted and has other health problems, said: "I paid the bill immediately so was shocked to get this through the post.

"I live alone and it's caused me a lot of worry."

People hit with the surcharge say they never received an initial invoice.

The law states a rent invoice must be sent.

Bosses at the property company say they will look at each case individually.

They claim that some of the invoices do not appear to have reached their destinations and that only a very small number of tenants are involved.
