A SCHEME to improve private rented homes is being launched.

Landlords are being invited to a fair to find out what it is all about.

They are also being urged to sign up to an agreement on better standards.

The landlord and property accreditation scheme will cover Ravensthorpe and the Scout Hill, Dewsbury Moor, Westtown, Eightlands, Ashworth and Flatts areas of Dewsbury.

Tony Hood, Kirklees Council's housing director, said: "The scheme provides the opportunity for landlords, tenants, the community and the council to work together to create better neighbourhoods.

"Improved standards will benefit tenants and also improve business opportunities for landlords."

Private landlords are invited to the scheme's launch at Ravensthorpe Community Centre in Garden Street from 5.45pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, December 1.

There will be stalls run by various services, including housing benefit, the Environmental Services, Energy Advice, Health and Safety Executive, Kirklees Bond Bank, Kirklees Safer Communities, the Rent Service and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
