COUNCILS have been urged to repair roads while the sun shines.

The Road Surface Treatments Association yesterday called on local authorities to fill in potholes before the winter.

Chief executive Howard Robinson said: “Councils should now be undertaking their programmes of road maintenance if they are to prevent the pothole plague that resulted from last winter.

“A well-maintained road is better able to withstand the rigours of a severe winter.

“Proper long-term maintenance offers far better value than short-term repairs.”
