MORE than 300 people gathered in the dark to pay their respects to a soldier from 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment who was killed in Afghanistan at the first repatriation of the year.
Family and friends of Private John King wept as they watched the cortege pass by.
The soldier was killed in a blast in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province on December 30.
That attack also left a Kirklees soldier badly wounded.
He is Pte Matthew Light, the 19-year-old son of Kirklees councillor Robert Light.
Pte Light is being treated in hospital.
The body of his 19-year-old former colleague was flown to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
