PEOPLE are being urged to play a part in beating a plague of deadly ragwort.

The weed, which is fatal to grazing animals, is sprouting on roadsides.

Now Kirklees Council is asking for people to report if they see any.

Workers will then be sent to deal with the yellow flowering plant, although they cannot go on to private land.

Clr Martyn Bolt, Kirklees Cabinet member for highways, said: "The ragwort season is at its height and the teams will be working hard to try to eradicate it from highways."

People who want to report ragwort should call 0800 731 8765.
