MORE people are to benefit from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Thanks to the generosity of its fundraisers, flying hours during summer months are to be extended.

The move will ensure extra visitors to the region's dales, moors, cities and coastlines over holiday periods can be reached by the service.

The ambulance, funded by its Yorkshire supporters, will operate from 6am to 10pm and is expected to cover another 50 incidents where helicopter speed is vital.

The service, which has attended about 4,000 incidents since it was set up four years ago, has also teamed up with the three Yorkshire ambulance services to create the UK's first air tasking desk to enable the air ambulance to be dispatched more rapidly.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance chief executive Martin Eede said: "I would like to take this opportunity to send a heartfelt thank-you to the thousands of individuals, clubs, societies and companies who have supported us this year.

"In doing so you have contributed towards a record fundraising total, enabling us to develop the service from basic to gold standard."
