A MAN was saved by firefighters after being trapped in a smoke-filled building.

Arsonists had set fire to two wheeled bins in the entrance hall of a block of four flats at 1am yesterday.

The blaze spread from the bins to the hall at the flats on Moorcroft Road, Dewsbury Moor.

A 59-year-old man was trapped in his flat, but firefighters found him.

They helped him to clamber through a window into the fresh air.

The man had suffered from the effects of breathing in smoke.

Firefighters gave him oxygen at the scene and he was then treated by paramedics.

He was not badly hurt.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
