VILLAGERS claim they were trapped in their homes as roads went ungritted.
Ian Lamont and his wife Hillary were stuck in their home in Bolster Moor above Golcar for 48 hours since the snow began on Sunday.
Ian, 64, said: “There have been no gritters at all. We haven’t been able to go anywhere.”
Ian was unable to get to the nearest shop, more than a mile away on Town End in Golcar. He said: “It’s all right going down the hill but coming back up would be difficult because I have a heart problem.”
Ian blamed Kirklees Council for the problems. He said: “When Schofields were in charge they used to grit our road. I don’t know what Kirklees is playing at.”
There were also problems in Honley this week.Arlene Shortiss, who lives on Westcroft with her husband Peter, said: “We phoned Kirklees this morning and asked them to grit our road and Grasscroft Road but they said they weren’t priorities. But when we went past the Sovereign in Shepley they were gritting the car park. It really made me mad.”
