RESIDENTS have been urged to make sure they stay on the electoral register.

Kirklees Council is delivering forms to homes across the district this month.

Anyone who registers by internet, freephone, text or post by September 8 will be entered in a £1,000 prize draw.

Householders are legally obliged to complete the form – even if they don’t intend to vote.

People who are not on the electoral register may struggle to get credit, open a bank account, apply for a loan or mortgage; get hire purchase, apply for a store card or catalogue or buy a mobile phone.Š

The updated electoral register will be published on December 1.

The next elections in Kirklees will take place in May 2012, when 23 of the 69 council seats will be up for grabs.
