CHILDREN in Dalton are to get a better play area.

The area, off Ridgeway is to get a major revamp, including new play equipment, a safe surface and fencing.

Kirklees Council's Culture and Leisure Services Department has applied to the council for permission to carry out the £30,000 project.

The scheme will also include swings, climbing frames, dog-proof fencing and litter bins.

Old play equipment has already been removed.

John Fletcher, assistant head of culture and leisure services, with responsibility for parks and open spaces, said work on the playground had been delayed until the Dram Centre was completed.

Now it was fully operational it was decided to complete the area with the new playground.

Planning officers are expected to make a decision on the application by the end of the month.
