Antonia Coffey, residential manager at Bramleys estate agent in Huddersfield, said people looking to move into Huddersfield were buying homes in villages, and moving away from the town centre.

She said: "What's tending to happen is that people are moving to villages where there are shops, like Honley and Almondbury. Villages are becoming far more popular than they were before, people are looking for small communities.

"At one stage buyers used to come into town, but I think it's started to move back out to the villages so they have got the amenities at hand."

Huddersfield's popular residential areas are also keeping buyers attention, she added.

"Places like Lindley and Marsh are close to town and the hospital, and the M62," she said. "Houses there sell well with investors and private buyers. They have very good schools, which also helps."

The Huddersfield branch of Bramley's has sold 330 houses across Huddersfield postcodes since January, with new homes selling well.
