STUDENTS in Huddersfield have seen their achievements rewarded.

More than 40 students from the Technical College's Community Outreach Service were awarded certificates at a ceremony at the Hudawi Centre, Hillhouse.

Adults took a wide range of courses, ranging from information technology, English, maths and childcare to fashion.

The students also attended the college's New Start programme at the Ray Street Enterprise Centre and took classes at the Islamia Women's College.

The Community Outreach Service provides courses for people who may be disadvantaged in various ways.

It is also aimed at adults who may be unemployed, women returning to work or from ethnic minority backgrounds.

The courses were formed to prepare students to move on to mainstream education, training or work.

Nesta Lee-Adebowale senior co-ordinator on the New Start programme, said: "Our courses have helped them regain confidence, make new friends and gain new skills.

"They have also acquired skills in a variety of subjects which will help them find work or training."
