SHINING examples of Yorkshire's young people have launched an award scheme to reward the region's youth.

Model Nell McAndrew was among previous winners of Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards launching the 2004 event and calling for local nominations.

The awards - now in their 12th year - celebrate the achievements of young people from across Yorkshire in a range of subjects, including sport, the arts and education.

Nell, who lives with Huddersfield boyfriend Paul Hardcastle, said: "The awards acknowledge and celebrate people from all backgrounds for all sorts of achievements.

It was special to me because it meant I was recognised in the place where I was brought up."

Previous winners include racing driver Justin Wilson, originally from Sheffield, Leeds entrepreneur Dylan Wilk, singer Gareth Gates and footballer Alan Smith.

The awards have so far raised more than £300,000 for the children's charity, NCH. They are open to people aged under 35 who live, work or were born in Yorkshire.

They celebrate talent and achievement in the arts, education, management and enterprise and sport. There are also Unsung Hero, Youngster of the Year and Personality of the Year awards.

Nomination forms are available from www.mccormicks-solicitors.comwww.yorkshireyoung achievers.co.uk or www.nch. org.uk/yorkshireyoungachievers or by calling 08457 125726.
