PEOPLE involved in a youth sports project have received awards to mark their work.

The awards were given by UK Athletics to members of organisations involved with a Clublink scheme at Shelley College.

Clublink is part of a Government scheme to encourage children into sport.

Money is channelled from UK Athletics through West Yorkshire Sport and Kirklees Council.

The project involves a weekly sports club at Shelley College for children from its feeder schools.

These include Scissett Middle School and Shelley First School.

Community coaches from Kirklees visit the primary schools to encourage children to go to the club.

Members of Holmfirth Harriers are also involved.

Their presence makes it easy for children to leave the school club and join the Harriers when they reach a certain age or ability.

Awards for excellence in the Clublink scheme were presented by UK Athletics to: John McFadzean, youth development officer at Holmfirth Harriers; Shaun Fox, of Shelley College; Kirklees community coach and Holmfirth Harrier Richard Szostak; Brenda Hilton, of Newsome Sports College; Joe Baker, of West Yorkshire Sport; Jenny Rooks, of Shelley First School; Justin Hampson, of Scissett Middle School; Kirklees community athletics coach Andy Cook; and Claire Turnbull, of Scissett Middle School.
