TROPHIES have been presented to mark the end of the Riding For The Disabled season in Huddersfield.

About 50 disabled people aged from five up to their 60s benefit from the work done by dedicated RDA volunteers.

They are pictured at their final riding session at Low Fold Equestrian Centre in Lepton.

The trophies were presented at the nearby White Horse pub.

There are two evening groups which meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from April to September.

In the following list of trophy winners, the first name is the rider from the Monday group and the second the rider from the Tuesday group.

Most talented beginner, Becky Rycroft and Daniel Snee; tried the hardest, Rachael Hollas and Ruth Skelton; most consistent, Russell Bell and Simon Whittaker; most improved, Clare Healey and Jodie Kavanagh; style trophy, Georgina Oliver from the Monday group.

The Low Fold Equestrian Championship trophy for the most points amassed by a rider during the season went to Leila Mehrdadi with the reserve Mollie Kain from the Monday group.

The Tuesday group championship trophy went to Zoe Rank with Kathryn Ellis the reserve and Daniel Green the runner-up.

The terrible summer weather has had a big impact on the club’s fundraising.

Its major event, an annual horse show at Hopton Horse Centre, had to be cancelled twice.

But the grandparents of one rider, 14-year-old George Hirst, of Scapegoat Hill, donated all the money from their golden wedding celebrations to RDA.

The couple, Michael and Shirley Hirst, live in Marsh and donated just over £500.

Monday Group organiser Elaine Smith said: “This was very generous. We rely on kindness like this and fundraising to keep going and provide the horse-riding the disabled people love to do.

“If pubs, clubs or businesses want to hold a fundraising event for charity then please think of us.’’

The Star pub at Fenay Bridge held a funday which raised £200.
