THE River Calder is on flood alert once again after rain caused river levels to rise.

The Environment Agency put the alert status back on the river and its tributaries from Brighouse to Todmorden in Calderdale yesterday.

It comes just five days since it was last put on flood alert.

Last night the Environment Agency said that while rain was light and patchy, a heavier band is expected today which could see up to 30mm of rain fall across thePennines. A spokesman said: “River levels are forecast to start rising from 4am (Saturday) before peaking at around lunchtime.
