THE Royal National Lifeboat Institution has presented an award to one of its long serving members in Holmfirth.

Sheila Eastwood, 84, has completed 47 years of service as an official for the RNLI and received a Long Service Award from the charity during a luncheon at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

The guild chairman, from New Mill, Huddersfield has been a dedicated fundraiser for the Lifeboat charity. Area fundraiser manager Lisa Cooke presented Mrs Eastwood with the Record of Thanks Award. She said: “It is completely deserved”.

Mrs Eastwood is to continue working for the charity – and helped organise her own lunch for 180 people.

Also special thanks were given to Peggy Whiteley, of Holmfirth, who has been an RNLI helper for 54 years.
