RUSH-HOUR travellers witnessed a police negotiation when a woman threatened to jump from a bridge.

Huddersfield commuters watched as police cordoned off Burdock Way in Halifax on the A58.

The police were called to reports that a woman was standing on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge over the road.

The incident began to unfold at 4.25pm yesterday.

It later emerged that the woman had been reported missing just 15 minutes earlier.

Police wanted to clear the area to give them a chance to talk to her and help her to safety.

A negotiator sat with her, and the discussions lasted several minutes.

She was eventually talked down, and was later ushered into an ambulance by paramedics.

The road was reopened by 7.30pm last night.
