ONE of Huddersfield's main roads has reopened after being closed for four weeks.

Firth Street was closed to traffic while safety improvements were carried out by Kirklees Council.

The work will continue for another week, but drivers are now able to use the road.

Traffic-calming measures, including five zebra crossings, speed plateaux, ped- estrian guard rails and improved lighting, have been installed between the junction with Wakefield Road and the junction with King's Bridge Road.

The aim is to cut the number of accidents involving pedestrians on the busy road, which is next to Huddersfield University.
