TWO car drivers squared up to each other in a row over who was in the correct lane as they left a Huddersfield super- market.

A man who persuaded them to calm down blamed the removal of a left-hand only arrow from the two-lane exit at Sainsbury's Shore Head store.

Errol Hannon, who got out of his car to defuse the bust-up, said it wasn't the first argument he had seen there.

He said: "For some time the left-hand lane was clearly marked with an arrow directing traffic in that lane to Wakefield Road.

"But it was removed during roadworks and people have been using the lane to go straight on.

"They're in clear conflict with cars in the right-hand lane and I've been told it's caused a lot of bother."

Kirklees Council today promised it would put the arrow back.

A spokeswoman said: "The road markings will be replaced."

No date was given for the work.
