PEOPLE of Hipperholme have been urged to back £8m alterations to a road bottleneck.

The scheme to improve the crossroads - where five main roads meet - could get under way in 2008. But it faces opposition because about 30 houses will have to be demolished.

Clr David Kirton, a Conservative councillor in the village, said it had taken 25 years to come up with a definite plan.

He said: "I feel that if this final proposal were to be knocked back it could set Hipperholme village back another 25 years.

"Funding would be spent in other parts of Calderdale to relieve other bottlenecks."
