JUST when people thought they had ended, Holmfirth is facing more roadworks.

A leading trader is asking for a delay, so shops can recover from work which has disrupted town centre traffic for two months.

Royston Rogers, a past-president of Holme Valley Business Association, said: "Traders should get a chance to get back to normal after the hard times they have suffered."

Yorkshire Water is planning to dig up the Towngate car park, to build a sewer overflow system.

The work will take five months and there are fears it will clash with the busy summer season or the run-up to Christmas.

Mr Rogers said traders had endured hard times during roadworks on Victoria Street.

He added: "I want to arrange an urgent meeting with all concerned.

"I believe the works should be postponed until January in order to help traders."

Yorkshire Water said it would liaise with local people to decide the best start date.
