A FUN family roadshow was held in Holmfirth in a bid to encourage youngsters into cycling.

The Cycle Magic roadshow was held at Sands Recreation Ground yesterday as the Tour of Britain cyclists raced through the area.

Young cyclists had fun on a collection of crazy bikes.

Netball courts were transformed into cycle tracks, where children could test circus bikes, tandems and low-ride tricycles.

Local BMX stunt group The Trials Kings demonstrated their skills on a series of ramps.

They showed spectators how to do everything from basic balancing acts to tremendous airborne tricks.

Vicky Taylor, 28, of Holmfirth, who was there with seven-year-old son Matthew, said: "It's a great event.

"Matthew loves bikes, though I don't let him do anything quite this exciting.

"He was really impressed with the stunt bikes."

The family cycle fun continues on Sunday, when amateurs will get the chance to re-trace part of the route taken by the professional riders.

A Kirklees Council countryside officer will lead the ride from Huddersfield railway station, through Honley, Holmfirth and Holmbridge to Holme Moss.

The ride will be at an easy pace and will start at 10am.
