DRIVERS have been warned of roadworks in Milnsbridge from Monday.
Wall strengthening and repair work is to start in the Colne Valley village’s Morley Lane.
Kirklees Council’s Streetcare Unit will be carrying out the work over an eight-week period, weather permitting.
The scheme will cost in the region of £35,000, and will see the construction of a 10m-long masonry buttress to support a deteriorating section of the wall.
There will also be other reconstruction and repairs to the parapet along its length.
A temporary one-way system will be introduced on Morley Lane itself to allow the work to go ahead.
This will mean that traffic will not be able to access Milnsbridge village centre from Manchester Road using Morley Lane.
A diversion will be in place via Manchester road, New Street, Shaw Lane, Whiteley Street, Market Street and Yates Lane.
The one-way system will still permit traffic to use Morley Lane to leave Milnsbridge centre towards the direction of Manchester Road.
Two full closures of the road will be necessary on Sundays in early March. This will be to enable repair of the carriageway and also the completion of work to the wall.
