A couple are swapping sun loungers for a summit for a charity challenge.

Slaithwaite pair Rob and Debbie Frost will forsake a beach holiday to tackle Benidorm’s 1,406 metres Puig Campana mountain on March 11.

The second highest peak in Alicante, they hope their big effort will raise at least £500 for Cancer Research UK, following the deaths of close family members to the disease.

The couple who have three sons, Robert aged 29 , Daniel 26 and Nathan, 20, are currently in Spain training after deciding to take a career break to climb the peak in memory of Debbie’s brother and both of their dads.

Debbie, 50, only lost her dad Francis to pancreatic cancer on February 9, not long after he was diagnosed.

She faced more agony one year and three months ago when her brother Chris Holderness succumbed to the disease when he was only 59, following a short battle with it.

Rob’s dad, Leonard, died aged 70 in 1994 from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which spreads through the body’s immune system after a several year fight.

Debbie said: “Our challenge has now taken on a greater focus since dad was diagnosed and we want to make a difference in the huge fight against all types of this disease.

“I know that the money we raise will be helping Cancer Research UK to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

Money raised will fund research into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.

Sarah Threadgall, Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager for Calderdale and Kirklees said: “We are absolutely delighted that Rob and Debbie have decided to attempt such a great challenge to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

“They have been doing lots of preparation and we’re sure they are going to have an amazing experience. We can’t thank the couple enough for their support and want to wish them the very best on the day.”
