A ROBBER was chased through a Chinese takeaway and a garden as he made his escape.

The attacker had confronted a 20-year-old man in Waingate, Berry Brow, at 7.40pm on Monday. He asked for a cigarette and then thumped the victim in the face.

He demanded cash.

The victim handed a small amount over, but then he saw two men walking nearby and called out for help.

The robber fled into the Jade House takeaway on Waingate and tried to hide behind the counter.

But the victim and the other two men rushed in and the owner managed to usher them all outside.

The robber then fled to a nearby garden where he was cornered.

But he managed to escape after threatening the other three men with a brick.

He was described as white, in his early 20s, 5ft 9in and spotty with short mousy brown hair, big ears, and looked gaunt. He wore a navy blue top and blue jeans.
