An 88-year-old woman who was minding the shop while her son was upstairs was pushed over by a thug last night.

The robbery took place at an off-licence in Leeds Road, Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, at 5.20pm.

Inspector Ian Thornes of Kirklees CID said: "She was just covering for her son while he was upstairs.

"Three men entered the shop and one of them distracted her. Two packets of cigarettes worth £14.79 were grabbed and when she tried to stop them she has been pushed over.

"She was shaken but otherwise unhurt."

Descriptions of two of the three men are: One man wore a black helmet with green markings while a second man had a white helmet with red markings.

The trio drove off on two scooters.

Inspector Thornes added: "The robbery occurred on a busy main road and anyone who can help should ring 101 and ask for Nigel Gittins."
