Sex offender Robert Hind died as a result of strangulation and head injuries, police have revealed.

The 46-year-old serial paedophile disappeared from an address in Dewsbury on Wednesday, December 11.

After he vanished police warned the public, especially children, not to approach him.

But police then arrested a man in Milnsbridge on suspicion of the murder of the abuser, also known by the name Dack.

On Monday police began searching a stretch of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Milnsbridge.

Police diving and dog teams searched the stretch and discovered what were believed to be human remains.

On Tuesday, David Mitchell, 46, of Manchester Road, Cowlersley was charged with the murder of Hind and was due to appear at Kirklees Magistrates Court that morning.

Mitchell refused to leave the cells and the hearing proceeded in his absence.

Yesterday evening the man heading the investigation Superintendent Scott Wood confirmed the body parts found in the Colne Valley were human - and were that of Hind.

He said: "A forensic post mortem examination was carried out today which showed the 46-year-old died as a result of strangulation and head injuries.

"The scene guards in Colne Vale Road and an address in Manchester Road at Cowlersley in Huddersfield have now been lifted."
