IT looks like a mushroom and feels like a mushroom, but we don’t yet know if it tastes like a mushroom.
No-one has dared try it.
Allotment owner Robert Williams found this monster mushroom in top soil while working on allotments on Cemetery Road, Edgerton, and wondered what on earth he’d found.
He asked friends and even a greengrocer, but no-one was sure.
So he brought it to the Examiner office and wondered if readers could help.
The 71-year-old said: “I was digging up some spinach seeds from top soil on a banking and stepped back right on to this mushroom.
“I couldn’t believe how big it is. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I was going to throw it away, but then someone suggested I bring it to the Examiner office.’’
He added: “The soil is certainly very fertile on the allotments. I grow cabbage, cauliflower, peas, potatoes and lettuce there, but this mushroom is something else.’’
If anyone knows exactly what Robert has found they can phone the Examiner newsdesk on 01484 437761.
Or if you've dug up a monster in your veg patch or simply stumbled across something wacky, why not take a picture and send it in via the website.
