A ROCK and roll night is being organised to raise the profile of a Huddersfield music venue.

The gig at the Gas Club close to Huddersfield town centre will feature local rock ’n’ roll bands The Sundiblokes, Boogie Up A Storm and J B Goode.

The club on Gasworks Street off Leeds Road will stage the gig on Saturday, May 15.

Show organiser Dave Brian said: “The club contacted me following a meeting earlier this year where they looked at ways of boosting the club’s finances while tackling the effect of the credit crunch.

“The club is part of Huddersfield’s heritage and was taken over by a private committee after the gasworks closed and they would welcome any support.

“They have enjoyed some good crowds from Huddersfield Town and The Giants fans on match days, but other events would help fill in the gaps between fixtures.’’

This will be the 10th rock ’n’ roll gig that Dave has organised in recent years.

Many have been fundraisers and have benefited The Alzheimer’s Society, Kirkwood Hospice, The Huddersfield Group for Autism and Debra – for people who suffer from a serious skin complaint.

Tickets are £10 from The Kings Head (formerly The Station Tavern) in St George’s Square and at the Gas Club.
