CLAYTON West was rocking at the weekend with the sounds of some of the area's hottest talents.

Organisers of Saturday's West Fest, a free, youth rock festival, arranged for three double-deckers and two minibuses to ferry crowds from nearby villages, as well as Barnsley and Huddersfield, to and from Clayton West Scout Field.

The festival's running order went Seven Hours, Odd One Out, Unscathed Hero, Bandage These Hearts, They Made Me Do It, Anima, 6-Fingered Man, Raven Theory, Session 9, Johnny Poindexter, The Prototypes, Stylus, Rhombus, Crush and, to close the festival Gaia.

Despite choosing not to close the event with a fireworks display, festival-goers said the music had been enough to light up the night sky and make the evening go with a bang.

Promoter and festival organiser Ewan Scott said: "It was great. The atmosphere and the crowds built up during the day. All the bands were great and the crowd gave them a really good reception."

The event, aimed at 13 to 19-year-olds, was alcohol-free. It was arranged by Clayton West Explorers and Kirklees Council's Young People's Service.

Cash came from the Young People's Service, Clayton West Scout Group and Kirklees's Denby Dale, Kirkburton and Mirfield Area Committee.
