A NEW non-executive director has been appointed to the board of North Kirklees Primary Care Trust.

Thirty-three-year-old Riyaz Loonat, a financial adviser, will help to provide a crucial link between the trust and the people of Batley, Spen and Dewsbury.

Riyaz, who was born and lives in Batley, will serve on the board for four years.

He has worked as a financial assistant at Dewsbury NHS Trust and has been a financial advisor for the last five years.

He said he hoped to make good use of his experiences of working within the NHS as well as his knowledge of the local area and Asian culture and health issues.

He said: "The food in Asian culture has led to significant increases in high blood pressure, diabetes and angina in the last five to 10 years.

"I hope to make a positive contribution towards these health issues."

He has a business studies degree from the University of Teesside and a post-graduate certificate in information technology.
