FUNK musician Root Jackson is to play a benefit gig in Huddersfield for victims of the Grenada hurricane.

Root, who lives in London and originates from Carriacou, played at the Timeless Festival in Ravensknowle Park, Moldgreen, last year.

He lived in Huddersfield for 10 years from the age of 16, when he was sent here to find work.

But the 50-something's musical career has taken him all over the world

"I came up for the Caribbean Carnival and I was up for Christmas as well, as I have family here," he said.

"I have the urge to come back from London sometimes to get a break.

"Huddersfield is still a lovely part of the country," he added.

Root is scheduled to play at the Rumboat restaurant/club in Northumberland Street on Saturday, November 6. He plans to bring a guitarist and drummer with him.

A support act will also perform.

Tickets will be about £15. Ring the Rumboat on 01484 517418 for information.
