A MIRFIELD Rotarian has been chosen to head Rotary clubs in the Yorkshire region for the next year.

John Philip has been chosen as the next Rotary International District Governor for the area, which has 80 clubs stretching from the east coast to the Lancashire border.

Mr Philip, a retired hospital consultant, joined Mirfield Rotary Club in 1991.

Over the past few years he has worked on community projects such as free blood pressure checking events and campaigning to raise awareness of blood and organ donation.

During his year in office, he wants to raise the profile of the Rotary organisation, which has a million members around the world working to help local and international communities.
