A COUNCILLOR is urging local people to use Kirklees greenways and cycle networks to beat the excesses of the new year.

Keen cyclist and council cabinet member Clr Martyn Bolt wants people to walk, jog, ride or cycle their way to fitness.

Clr Bolt said: "Forget New Year's resolutions, because no-one sticks to them. I would just urge people to make use of facilities that are on their doorstep all the year round.

"We have a wealth of those in Kirklees. The greenway network providing a safe and attractive way for people of all ages to exercise, be it through walking, jogging, cycling and horse-riding.

"Similarly there are the canal towpaths which have been restored and re-opened in recent years and cycle routes and cycle lanes across Kirklees."
