A TEACHER who has developed writing through drama, in schools across Kirklees, has received a national award.

Jo Scott, who works at Rowley Lane Junior Infant and Nursery School, Lepton, is an advanced skills teacher for writing.

And she has received the John Downing Literacy Award from the UK Literacy Association, in the creative teacher category.

Jo led pupils when they were among 10 primary schools taking part in a Royal Shakespeare Company competition at Honley High School.

Rowley Lane was successful and children performed the play, King Lear, at the Swan Theatre in Stratford.

Headteacher Carol Martin said Jo’s first love was drama and she used her skills in this area to enthuse children and develop their writing.
