SPRING has certainly sprung at a Lepton school.

Banking in the grounds at Rowley Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School presents a fantastic display of crocus following a major revamp of the site.

The words Rowley Lane School and the school crest are beautifully presented following design work by parent Karen Cumper.

Children helped to plant 7,000 crocus bulbs before Christmas as part of a huge overhaul of the school’s outdoor facilities.

And as part of that, a garden created in memory of former pupil Charlotte Whittle at the front of the school has also been replanted and refurbished.

Year five pupil Charlotte was ten when she died from a serious heart condition in 1999.

Much of the work in the school grounds done by a team from First Direct Bank led by Denise Shipman during a community day.

The playground has also been totally re-designed and was be completed at the end of January. Members of Huddersfield Giants officially opened the revamped facilities.

As well as encouraging pupils interest in the natural world, it is also hoped that the bulb planting will encourage children to look after the new facilities.

One of the organisers, Deborah Walker, said: “By giving them a role in the developmental process it is hoped pupils will have a deeper level of respect for the new area”.

The new playground development will be split into two zones, active and quiet. The crocus display will provide a backdrop as the pupils play.
