THE Royal British Legion has given its support to a pensions equality fight.

The Equality for Veterans Association (EFVA) has led the campaign to highlight the differences ex-servicemen receive in pensions and to win equality for all war veterans.

At the Royal British Legion’s national conference, members backed a motion to support the drive for equal pension rights to be awarded to ex-servicemen and women.

The Regular Veterans who served in the period April 1975 onwards receive pro-rata pensions according to their service over a minimum of two years, whereas those who served in the period 1949 to March 1975 receive nothing, yet they contributed the same.

A petition of more than 300,000 signatures was delivered to Downing Street and members of EFVA hope that with the support of the wider public they will win equality for all who served their country.
