THE Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will join thousands of people in North Yorkshire at the north of England's largest countryside show.

The Royal couple will visit the 148th Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate as hundreds of farmers, traders and exhibitors display their wares.

More than 46,000 tickets for the event were sent out in advance with many thousands more expected to attend over the full three days.

The couple will be escorted around the show by honorary show director Bill Cowling, a farmer from Pannal, near Harrogate.

"We were absolutely delighted to learn that our invitation had been accepted," Mr Cowling said.

"They both have a genuine love of the countryside and a real interest in agriculture. They will receive a warm Yorkshire welcome both from the Society and the show visitors. It will be a wonderfully memorable day I am sure."

Attractions include dancing diggers, marching bands and the first public display from the newly-formed Yorkshire Regiment. There will also be the traditional competitions, with 8,000 awards up for grabs for everything from honey-making to wood-turning.

Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will tour the showground meeting visitors, exhibitors and staff.

The prince will then visit the Royal Hall in Harrogate to view restoration work and meet people associated with the project. Meanwhile, the Duchess will open the Newby Hall Stables conversion in Ripon.
