THE Duke of York made an "emergency stop" in West Yorkshire yesterday.

Prince Andrew visited Batley firm Angloco, which designs and builds firefighting and emergency vehicles for export around the world.

He was visiting the company in his role as a special representative for UK Trade and Investment, the export support section of the Department of Trade and Industry.

The prince met Angloco managing director Bill Brown and discussed the firm's success in overseas markets, including Africa, the Middle East, the Far East and the Caribbean.

He saw a demonstration of the firm's Bronto aerial ladder platform - used in major fire and rescue operations - and tested rescue equipment used to free victims from vehicles after accidents.

Angloco, which won the 2002 International Business Award for product innovation, is among firms aiming to win business in the rebuilding of Iraq.

It also hopes to land contracts in Dubai.
