HUNDREDS of children and teachers have said farewell to a much-loved member of staff.

Barry Gibson retired as cleaning supervisor of Royds Hall High School last week.

He was presented with a £240 voucher for a laptop computer by Town legend Andy Booth, at the school’s end-of-term celebration.

School business support manager Joanne Clegg said: “Barry was a footballer for Sheffield Wednesday and is from a large family of footballers. He has coached and managed a range of football clubs in the Huddersfield area.

“It was particularly delightful for Barry to be presented by a gift from all the school staff by Andy Booth.

“As Barry collected his gift the whole school gave him a standing ovation which was a very touching moment.

“We wish him all the very best for a happy and fruitful retirement.”

Three hundred pupils also received books and tokens as prizes for their hard work, at the event.
