YOUNGSTERS across Huddersfield are getting first hand experience of the world of work over the next few weeks.

Among them are students at Royds Hall High School, in Paddock, who are taking part in a variety of work-related experiences.

Kirinpreet Kaur and Shanice Marshall are among Year 9 and Year 10 students studying child development who are attending Paddock’s Sure Start Centre which is part of the Paddock Junior, Infant and Nursery School complex.

The placements give valuable hands-on experience and allow students to put the theory they have studied into practice in a work-related setting.

Michelle Fleetwood, Royds Hall child development teacher, said:

“Claire McGlynn, theŠnursery manager, is a former Royds’ student and has been the vital link, enabling the students to be involved in an exciting, interesting and educational session.

“Students have returned to school from placement full of enthusiasm and excitement wanting to know when they can return.”

The placement is one of several initiatives which the school is taking part in to extend its well-established community links.
