HUDDERSFIELD pet owners on benefits are being offered a chance to get their dogs and cats microchipped free of charge.

An event planned for Newsome tomorrow is being run by the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and District Branch along with Kirklees Council.

The Kirklees Dog Wardens will be present to offer advice about training, welfare and responsible dog ownership.

Those in receipt of income support, job seekers allowances, housing benefit and council tax benefit or pensions credit are eligible for assistance.

The event runs from 11.30am until 2pm tomorrow at the Newsome Scout Hut where officials will have a range of treatments for both dogs and cats.
