RUGBY-mad youngsters have given cash to a children's charity.

Huddersfield Rugby Union Football Club's mini-section has given £100 to the NSPCC.

The club hosted a party night at Upperthong Village Hall in aid of the charity.

The other aim of the fun night was to help pay for the mini-section's end- of- season tour to the Newbury Festival to play against other teams.

More than 100 youngsters, aged between five and 12, from the club took part in the festival.

Under-eights coach Jason Field said: "It has been excellent working with the NSPCC over the past couple of seasons.

"It is great to know we are helping to raise funds and the profile of an organisation which is clearly so well aligned with the values and spirit of the mini-section at the rugby club.

"Long may it continue."

* Huddersfield's branch of the NSPCC is organising the sponsored Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (Hack) for the second year running.

This is a challenge walk which will take up to 18 hours along a 35-mile route across the North York Moors National Park.
