IMPROVEMENTS to a play area may be delayed because of a political row.
Kirklees Council wants to upgrade Broadlands Recreation Grounds in Meltham.
But Meltham Town Council is refusing to release £20,000 for the plan.
Town councillor Terry Lyons said: “At the moment it’s a single play area and the idea was to upgrade it and have two areas, one for younger children and one for older children.
“That’s not happening so we’re holding the money back. We’ve written to Kirklees to explain this and we’re awaiting a response.”
Mr Lyons said parents wanted a separate play area for children aged nine to 11.
He said: “It’s important for the mothers because they want an area for the younger children. We don’t think this is unreasonable.”
A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said: "We are continuing to work to find an amicable solution which meets all needs.”
