A COUNCILLOR has welcomed new money for a museum.

Kirklees Council decided this week to give £60,000 to the Colne Valley Museum in Golcar.

The museum, based in three Grade II listed Victorian weavers’ cottages, is not normally funded by Kirklees.

Colne Valley Lib Dem Clr Nicola Turner welcomed the investment.

She said: “The museum has been here for a long time, teaching young people and visitors to the area about the valley’s heritage.

“Hopefully this money will help to ensure that this wonderful tradition will continue for many years to come.”

The £60,000 was secured by Lib Dem councillors on Wednesday. The money will go towards a revamp of the museum’s entrance and an expansion of display space.

Clr Turner said: “We are really pleased to be able to help the museum’s management committee to work toward achieving its ambitious and exciting vision for the future.”
