ARDENT Huddersfield Town fans camped out overnight to guarantee precious tickets for the team's vital promotion play-off.

Die-hard Terriers supporters arrived outside the McAlpine Stadium ticket office at midnight and bedded down in sleeping bags to assure their place at the head of the queue.

By 7.15am today hundreds of followers waited patiently in line for tickets, of which Town has been allocated about 32,000.

The match against Mansfield at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Spring Bank Holiday Monday could see the Terriers go up just year after the club's future looked uncertain with losses of over £20 million.

Among those pinning their hopes on manager Peter Jackson's team is Francesca Briggs, 15, from Lindley, who queued with her family from 5.45am. "There was one man here at midnight and we saw one or two with sleeping bags," she said.

John Hobson, 64, of Clayton West, arrived at 5.30am to claim his ticket. The ticket office opened an hour early at 7am to cope with demand. Mr Hobson was confident of Town's success in Cardiff: "We wouldn't be going if we didn't think they weren't going to win it."

Fans from around the world are planning to jet in for the big match. One man is paying £2,000 to fly in from Australia.
