A SECOND burst water main in two days caused traffic chaos for rush-hour commuters in Huddersfield.
Yorkshire Water technicians were working late into the night last night to try to repair the pipe under Wakefield Road in Aspley.
They had initially been called in on Sunday to repair a burst.
After successfully carrying out the repairs, the pipe burst again as a result of pressure caused by the road being filled in.
Police closed the carriageway out of the town centre and set up a contraflow to allow the technicians to carry out the repairs.
It caused major hold-ups for motorists travelling in both directions.
A Yorkshire Water spokesman said last night: “We’d like to apologise to customers inconvenienced by this burst and reassure them that we are doing absolutely everything we can to repair it and restore the road back to normal as quickly as possible.”
