A MAN has been charged with the murder of his son.

Chris Hawkins, 47 – who was appearing before Huddersfield magistrates today – also faces a charge of trying to murder his 14-year-old daughter, Donna.

Both children were found with multiple stab wounds when ambulance crews and police were called to a house in Royd Street, Hill Top, Slaithwaite, on Sunday afternoon.

Hawkins was arrested after Ryan was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with serious injuries following an incident at the terrace house.

Ryan, who had just celebrated his fourth birthday, died soon after.

Hawkins is also charged with the attempted murder of Donna, a student at Colne Valley High School.

She was also taken to the Royal Infirmary with multiple stab wounds. She is ‘serious but stable’.

A police spokesman said last night: “In connection with the death of Ryan Hawkins, a 47-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder and will appear before Huddersfield magistrates.”
