Six out of 10 first-time buyers have had to make sacrifices to get on the property ladder, with some even delaying starting a family. Around 62% of first-time buyers, the equivalent of 15.6m people, said they had to make lifestyle changes to afford their first home, according to mortgage broker Purely Mortgages. More than one in five said they had cut back on holidays, 21% were socialising less and one in 10 said they had taken on an extra job.
